Engineer-Core IP & Transport

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
As a recognized expert in Core Transport and IP technologies, responsible to provide technical solutions for dynamic business initiatives by working with the business to develop detailed technical requirements, producing technical designs and drawings, and test plans to ensure the proper delivery of these new initiatives to SaskTel’s customers.  Responsible to understand and evaluate new technologies, providing recommendations for their deployment within SaskTel.  Provides technical expertise (individually and as a team member) that will result in leading technology change within SaskTel.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1.    As a technical expert and widely recognized authority, is responsible for the continuous acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Provide professional and technical expertise and mentorship to Core Network Engineering Assistants and provides guidance to others in the corporation who require understanding of advanced IP Core and Transport technologies. Influences the thinking of upper management in the department and other areas of the corporation.
2.    Architectural design authority for IP Core and Transport technologies.
3.    Provide technical consulting to influence SaskTel’s business direction by understanding and relating emerging technical and industry trends to the Marketing division or other lines of business.
4.    Responsible to contribute to the development of technical requirements for vendor selection, provide recommendation for vendor selection and to assist in the management of vendor and partner relationships.
5.    Accountable for a thorough end to end understanding of SaskTel’s legacy Core Transport and IP network to be able to predict the impact of any changes to both the network and SaskTel’s Core Transport and IP services as a result of new features, hardware or software additions. In some situations, this may drive the need to build cross-functional teams from several departments and provide leadership to deliver complete solutions.
6.    Accountable to provide ad hoc project management for smaller corporate initiatives specific to new technology introduction.
7.    Contribute to cost effective use of corporate financial resources through the planning, submission, and monitoring of major corporate network project expenditures.
8.    Drives change within the organization. Accountable for decisions relating to leadership, business, and technology that influence strategic plans and programs affecting our business.
9.    Provides professional and technical consulting expertise to Network Planning, Core Network Engineering, Network Support and Service Planning and Development.
10.    Accountable for professional reports, presentation, and studies that SaskTel management can rely upon as input to corporate decisions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Education and experience (one of the following combinations):
a.    University degree in Electrical, Electronic, Software, or Systems Engineering with at least six years of relevant Core IP and Transport technology experience. Preference will be given to those with a Masters degree in Engineering.  Must be eligible for registration with the Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. OR
b.    Degree in Computer Science, with at least seven years of relevant Core IP and Transport technology experience. OR
c.    Diploma or Certificate in Engineering Technology, with at least eight years of relevant Core IP and Transport technology experience.
2.    Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of SaskTel’s legacy and succession Core transport and IP technologies.
3.    Demonstrated understanding of design and implementation of technology concepts, developments, and issues.
4.    Ability to function in ambiguous situations, with particular emphasis on design, deployment, operation and integration of emerging technologies.
5.    Proven and demonstrated Project Management skills and processes, as outlined in SaskTel’s Corporate Project Management Office.
6.    Ability to learn new technologies and apply them for effective solution of business problems.
7.    Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
8.    Must have a valid driver's licence.

  • Accountable for proactively identifying, inspiring, and acting on opportunities to innovate and drive process improvements, develop growth initiatives, and improve revenue and/or reduce costs. Driving valuable customer experiences and employee engagement, improving sustainability, and demonstrates commitment to the communities that we serve. 

 

This is an on-site position located at the location(s) above. The successful candidate must be located within the province of Saskatchewan. Out of province/country candidates must be willing to relocate. Flexible work opportunities, in province, may be available.
