GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
As a recognized expert in Cloud Technology, responsible to provide technical solutions for dynamic business initiatives by working with the business to develop detailed technical requirements, producing technical designs, test plans, and software to ensure the proper delivery of these new initiatives to SaskTel’s customers. Accountable for design, development, implementation, and advanced support of software/hardware, applications, tools, cloud infrastructure, services, and help support the evolution of network technologies. Responsible to understand and evaluate new technologies, providing recommendations for their deployment within SaskTel.  Provides technical expertise (individually and as a team member) that will result in leading technology change within SaskTel.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Provides system design, implementation, and advanced support for the technical environment associated with Telco Cloud, Tools, and Automation for the SaskTel Network to meet functionality requirements and ensure cost effectiveness for all SaskTel user groups.
2. As a technical expert, responsible for the continuous acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Acts as a mentor to members of the Telco Cloud and Tools & Automation support team. Provides guidance to others in the corporation who require understanding of advanced applications, tools, and cloud technology. Influences the thinking of upper management in the department and other areas of the corporation.
3. Plans, coordinates, and provides direction for appropriate software/hardware, tools, and data requirements, as well as required upgrades to systems, tools, and layered software products to ensure proper functionality and performance of the cloud and tools environment.
4. Development of software to support the network through use of scripting, software languages, tools, APIs, and user interfaces.
5. Interfaces with equipment suppliers on technical problem referrals and issues impacting the performance of the applications, tools, and telco cloud technology. Solves software/hardware failures while under pressure from impacted clients or customers.
6. Evaluates, coordinates, recommends, and directs the implementation of new technologies and services based on DevOps methodologies. Accountable for the automation of complex cloud native technologies.
7. Represents SaskTel on national committees and by attending conferences to enhance and refine the performance of the Telco technologies.
8. Responsible to contribute to the development of technical requirements for vendor selection, provides recommendations for vendor selection and to assist in the management of vendor and partner relationships.
9. Drives change within the organization. Accountable for decisions relating to leadership, business, and technology that influence strategic plans and programs affecting SaskTel’s business.
10. Accountable for professional reports, presentations, and studies that SaskTel management can rely upon as input to corporate decisions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and experience (one of the following combinations):
a. University degree in Electrical, Electronic, Software, or Systems Engineering, or Engineering Physics, or dual Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, or dual Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering Physics and Computer Science, with at least two years of relevant Telco Cloud technology experience or software development, network and/or cloud infrastructure experience. Must be registered as an EIT or Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. OR
b. University Degree in Computer Science, with at least three years of relevant Telco Cloud technology experience or software development, network and/or cloud infrastructure experience. OR
c. Technical Diploma or Certificate in Engineering Technology, with at least five years of relevant Telco Cloud technology experience or software development, network and/or cloud infrastructure experience.
2. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of system development in cloud technologies. 
3. Working knowledge of service provider networks and/or data center networking to automate complex network processes.
4. Knowledge of Network Function Virtualization architectures and Software Defined Networking. 
5. Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools. 
7. Must possess creative as well as analytical skills.
8. Ability to function well in ambiguous situations, with particular emphasis on emerging technologies.
9. Effective in partnering with vendors and other departments within SaskTel.
10. Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal effectively with others, demonstrating ability to translate business drivers into technological requirements and effectively communicate using both business and technical terminology.

Driving valuable customer experiences and employee engagement, improving sustainability, and demonstrates commitment to the communities that we serve.
