JOB SUMMARY
Provides high quality customer service with the installation, upgrade, maintenance, and repair of integrated voice, data, wireless, video, IP, and IT customer premise solutions.  Directs the completion of the installation and maintenance of specified components of customer premise and network activities relating to the delivery of customer solutions. Extensive travel required throughout the province on short notice to meet customer's needs.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Successfully completes all vendor certification requirements, including exams, to provide on-site installation, upgrade, maintenance, and repair of advanced pabx, key system, PC, server, and router hardware, software, and related applications.
2. Installs and maintains all associated wiring (telephone, coaxial, fibre optic, power and grounding) related to the installation of customer premise equipment.
3. Installs, maintains and upgrades all associated AC and DC power equipment related to the installation of the customer premise equipment.
4. Installs, maintains and upgrades customer premise solutions while minimizing the impact to the customer's business.
5. Completes hardware, software, and application acceptance testing in a controlled lab environment and on the customer's premises to meet vendor requirements.
6. Coordinates and ensures the timely completion of network and customer premise activities relating to the installation and maintenance of integrated customer premise solutions to ensure customer requirements are met.
7. Provides training to customers as required.
8. Provides training to I&R staff as required to enable I&R to complete basic troubleshooting under the direction of the Provincial Technical Assistance Call Centre.
9. Delivers exceptional customer service and ensures that the product, service, or application is installed and delivered to meet the customer's needs as designed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Technical Institute Diploma in Electronics or Communications Engineering and 2 years current experience in a Customer Service Technician position OR Certified Telecommunications Technician approved by Saskatchewan Applied Science and Technologists Technicians and 2 years current experience in a Customer Service Technician position OR one of the following supplemented by Basic Electronics, Electricity, and Transmission and 5 years current experience in a Customer Service
Technician position:
a) Algebra 30, Geo-Trig 30 and Physics 30
b) Pre-calculus 30 and Physics 30
2. Thorough knowledge, normally gained through 5 years of hands on experience in one or more of the following:
a) The installation, maintenance and repair of current data transmission equipment, mini-computer and LAN/WAN technology.
b) The installation, maintenance and repair of current pabx telephone equipment.
c) The installation, maintenance and repair of current key system telephone equipment.
3. Must successfully complete prescribed training courses to obtain and maintain vendor certification to meet SaskTel's and our vendor's requirements (i.e. Microsoft, Unix, Cisco, Nortel, Lucent, Mitel, Perimeter)
4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 95/98, Microsoft Windows NT, TCP/IP Internetworking gained through a combination of formal training and related work experience.
5. Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
6. Demonstrated planning, organizing, and coordinating abilities.
7. Good communications skills and the ability to instruct and deal effectively with others.
8. Ability to work independently and have a high degree of initiative.
9. Must have a valid driver's licence.
