Engineer/Technology Solution Manager-Technical Support

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
As a recognized expert this position is responsible for providing technical leadership and consulting services in the specified area of advanced technology. Accountable for the technical support, design, and deployment of network, services, and related features in the posted area of technology. Provides technical expertise (individually and as a team member) that will result in leading technology change within SaskTel.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Provide technical assistance to all SaskTel user groups impacting the performance of the specified area of technology. Responsibilities include supporting interface problems that arise in the specified area of technology systems, sub-systems and related network equipment.
2. Provide on demand (24/7) top level operational support for the posted network technology and services. Directs lower levels of support, analyzes test results, identifies and rectifies equipment/system troubles.
3. Lead, co-ordinate and assist with the insertion & integration of network equipment and software upgrades. Recommend appropriate software and data requirements to ensure proper functionality and performance of the specified technology network.
4. As a technical expert, responsible for the continuous acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Research new methodologies, standards, guidelines and recommends changes to operational practices.
5. Interface with equipment suppliers on technical problem referrals and issues impacting the performance of the specified technology area. Responsible for managing vendor support contracts.
6. Provide recommendations and assistance by introducing and implementing new technologies and services. Lead and assist user groups involved with the modernization of SaskTel's network in the posted area of technology.
7. Represent SaskTel on national committees and by attending conferences in order to enhance and refine the performance of the specified technology network.
8. Drive change within the organization. Accountable for decisions relating to leadership, business, and technology that influence strategic plans and programs affecting our business.
9. Accountable for professional reports, presentation, and studies that SaskTel management can rely upon as input to corporate decisions.
10. Act as a mentor to members of the support team and provide guidance to others in the corporation who require understanding of the specified advanced technology area.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and experience (one of the following combinations):
   a)University degree in Electrical, Electronics or Electronic Systems Engineering, and be qualified to register as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training with APEGS.
   b)University Degree in Computer Science or Technical Diploma or Certificate in Engineering Technology, along with at least five years of relevant technology experience.
2. Thorough knowledge of the architecture, network management systems and operation of the network, along with extensive experience in design, testing and implementation in the posted area of technology is required.
3. Experience with various software applications for scripting, automation, analytics, and visualization tools.
4. Demonstrated ability with timely resolution of complex and unique application and system problems.
5. Demonstrated experience in leading specialized technical projects and/or teams, project management or coordination.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, supporting the ability to effectively coach, mentor and transfer knowledge to immediate support, engineering design and network operations teams.
7. Strong team member, with the ability to influence others. Must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously without supervision.
8. Valid driver’s license.

  • Accountable for proactively identifying, inspiring, and acting on opportunities to innovate and drive process improvements, develop growth initiatives, and improve revenue and/or reduce costs. Driving valuable customer experiences and employee engagement, improving sustainability, and demonstrates commitment to the communities that we serve. 

 

This is an on-site position located at the location(s) above. The successful candidate must be located within the province of Saskatchewan. Out of province/country candidates must be willing to relocate. Flexible work opportunities, in province, may be available.
