JOB SUMMARY
Provides advanced level III technical and systems support to internal and external customers on integrated voice, data, wireless, IP and IT communication solutions on a province- wide basis.  Researches, tests, analyzes, consults and educates internal and external customers on existing and emerging customer premise and network based equipment, applications and technologies. Ensures service objectives and
effective operational/maintenance procedures are developed. Maintains liaisons with suppliers, partners and other communications companies.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)
1.  Provides on demand, multi-platform level III technical support to isolate, analyze, resolve and restore customer premise and network voice, data, wireless, video, IP and IT integrated and stand-alone hardware and software systems.  Replicates customer premise troubles as required to quickly develop solutions.
2.  Responsible and authorized to communicate with vendor's technical experts to resolve technical issues. Partners with vendors to evaluate and introduce new customer premise and network elements and services.
3.  Provides expertise to and co-ordinates with other departments as required (PNOC, BCSC, PSCOE, BCIC, I&R, and Internet Help Desk).
4.  Evaluates products, services and applications with Marketing.  Conducts internal/external field trials, completes technical presentations and documentation, and assists with business case development as required.
5.  Develops methods, procedures, practices, and documentation pertaining to the  installation, implementation, upgrade and repair while minimizing the impact on customers.
6.  Evaluates and recommends test equipment; recommends equipment sparing levels provincially.
7.  Assists in the completion and integration of designs, applications and configurations to meet internal and external customers' business needs.
8.  Performs hardware assembly, software loading and acceptance prior to shipment to customer site.
9.  Researches new products, services and applications to resolve customer premise situations.
10. Performs operational reviews and audits as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1.  Technical Institute Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology as recognized by the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technicians and Technologists.
2.  Successful completion and current standing of applicable vendor certification(s) associated with the technical focus of the posted position and as specified in the posting.

3.  Thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of the specified area of expertise normally gained through 5 years of current customer premise equipment experience of which 2 years was in a level III support role. The specified area will include but is not limited to the following as specified in the posting.
A)  data equipment, computer operating systems and data networking technologies
B)  multi-platform PABX telephone equipment
C)  key system telephone equipment
D)  IP (Internet Protocol) telephony, internetworking and associated hardware and software
4.  Demonstrated ability and experience in resolving complex application/system/design problems.
5.  Thorough knowledge of various software applications and operating systems including Microsoft Windows 95/98, Windows NT, TCP/IP Internetworking, UNIX or OS/2 as determined by the vendor.
6.  Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, business acumen, professionalism, and decision-making ability.
7.  Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
8.  Ability to direct, train, and deal effectively with others.
9.  Must have a valid driver license.

3.  May be required to work overtime to meet project  deadlines / customer demands.
4.  Responds to demands for immediate assistance.
5.  Constantly working to deadlines.
6.  Must successfully complete and maintain current vendor certification exams for specified technologies.
7.  Complies with all safety, health and environmental policies, programs and standards at all times.
