GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Provides objective, independent advice and insight to support SaskTel in achieving its direction and objectives.  Creates, manages and executes a comprehensive, risk-based Internal Audit Program designed to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of SaskTel’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) processes.  Provide reasonable assurance to SaskTel Executive Management and SaskTel Board of Directors that risks to SaskTel achieving its strategic objectives are effectively mitigated and controlled.  Offer assurance and consulting services to add value for SaskTel's senior management and SaskTel’s Board of Directors by providing guidance on how better to execute their responsibilities.

Performs advanced-level, professional internal auditing activities, including managing and/or conducting internal audit engagements, consulting engagements and fraud investigations; engagements include a
broad range of topics related to SaskTel's operations and its environment.  Develops and maintains a quality assurance and improvement program that covers all aspects of the internal audit activity. Researches and implements audit tools and methodologies.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Develops and conducts a comprehensive, risk-based Internal Audit Program that provides assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve SaskTel's governance, risk management, and control environments.  Provides reasonable assurance to SaskTel Executive Management and Board of Directors that risks to SaskTel's strategic objectives are effectively mitigated and controlled.  Works closely with senior management and client areas to identify opportunities for improvement.
2. Creates and maintains the Internal Audit Risk Universe based on:  the Corporate Risk Register and Board Assurance Framework, quarterly risk reviews, previous Internal and External Audit activities, emerging risks identified through strategic and operational plans, industry research, and management input.
3. Plans, organizes, directs, and monitors internal audit operations.
4. Manages internal audit assignments throughout the corporation using staff from third party organizations and internal staff.  Reviews results to ensure appropriate identification, development and
documentation of significant conditions, risks, audit issues and recommendations for improvement.
5. Develops and presents audit recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders.
6. Ensures ongoing quality assurance of internal audit engagements in accordance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) as published by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
7. Leads and manages advanced, specialized internal audit assurance and consulting engagements.
8. Maintains a broad knowledge of the organization and its business functions, as well as specific knowledge of one or more Business Unit operations and activities.
9. Provides consulting services related to governance and control processes, risk management, and systems security through participation in project teams, steering committees and working committees, while maintaining independence and objectivity for future assurance work.
10. Applies and upholds the Institute of Internal Auditors' Code of Ethics; the internal auditing profession is held to a high ethical and professional standard due to the trust placed in its objective assurance
about risk management, control, and governance.
11. Fulfills a leadership role, and internal and external consulting, on the effective use of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and how it applies at SaskTel.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge and experience in the profession of Internal Auditing (standards, processes, and code of ethics).  A relevant university degree or equivalent combined education and work experience.  Minimum of
ten years relevant work experience, including management/ supervisory experience.
2. A Professional Designation (i.e. CA, CMA, CGA, PEng, ISP/ITCP) is required.
3. Advanced knowledge and understanding of governance, risk and control techniques and frameworks.
4. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal effectively with others.
5. Strong team member, able to influence the performance of others.
6. Excellent planning, analytical and research skills.
7. Demonstrated commitment to self development and development of others.
