Senior Planner-Network (Data)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Develops, updates and communicates integrated network architecture plans using appropriate technologies for the economic and orderly installation, extension, and rearrangement of SaskTel’s networks. Accountable for developing plans for special projects as required. Responsible for establishing, implementing and enforcing technology network standards and to support overall business and cyber security requirements and best practices.

 

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Reviews Corporate planning information (e.g. Strategic Plans, policy programs, marketing directives, etc.) and network information (e.g. switch reports, bandwidth Forecasts, traffic forecasts, traffic capacity reports, etc.) to determine future corporate service offerings.  Evaluates existing network elements to determine their suitability to cost effectively deliver the present and future corporate service offerings and network requirements.  This includes operating expenses, obsolescence of existing technologies and service delivery issues.
  2. Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure solutions that meet the needs of various stakeholders.
  3. Responsible for evaluating and recommending new technologies and tools to enhance security and overall system performance of infrastructure within TD.
  4. Works closely with cross-functional teams, including IS, data science, and business units, to ensure cohesive and secure architecture.
  5. Creates and maintain comprehensive documentation of architectures, security measures, and best practices.
  6. Evolves and maintains governance to maximize the effectiveness of architecture and align the various network planners with the architecture vision, roadmaps, and adopted standards.
  7. Responsible for analyzing network infrastructure requirements for new software and applications.
  8. Designs and directs the procurement of analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics and operational efficiency.
  9. Evaluates new technology options to determine their suitability to cost effectively deliver future services and network requirements. This includes the timely migration to new technologies and the removal of older technologies.  Technology evaluation is in conjunction with vendor presentations and Standards recommendations.
  10. Develops, maintains and issues network architecture plans for network projects or initiatives.  These integrated concept plans consider and address issues with the access network, switching (host non-host), trunking and data.  The plans will include the proposed technological evolution based on the approved direction of the Strategic Plan and will include all alternatives and options considered. After approval, the Network Planner communicates the timing and direction of technology to Implementation/Capacity Planners, Concept Planners and Provisioners.
  11. Provides input into the development of network strategic plans by providing costing model information and services impact analysis on SaskTel’s existing and proposed network.  Provides assistance and direction to other staff within the workgroup.
  12. Provides input into the development of Capital and Operating Budgets and conducts economic studies and evaluations as required.
  13. Responsible for completion of or participation in special projects as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. University Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Electronic Information Systems Engineering OR Technical Institute diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology with a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
  2. Knowledge and experience in various technologies including digital transmission/multiplex, data communications, switching, access technologies, frame and cell switching, LAN/WAN, networking and transmission protocols and Network Management.
  3. Knowledge and experience in conducting and analyzing economic studies.
  4. Good communications skills both written and verbal and the ability to influence and deal effectively with others.
