JOB SUMMARY
Provides corporate technical support to internal and external customers on application software, collaboration systems, computer and storage environments and/or network infrastructure.  Conducts and assists with acceptance testing of new systems, products and software.  Analyzes and identifies equipment and software problems and takes corrective action. Develops and maintains service objectives and effective operational and maintenance procedures.  Interfaces with Vendors, internal clients and external customers on technical issues.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

1. Provides on demand operational support for application software, collaboration systems, computer and storage environments and/or network
infrastructure.  Liaises with clients to improve business efficiency and effectiveness.
2. Mentors and co-ordinates staff including assignment of duties as required.  Provides leadership for business knowledge and technical experience for the department.
3. Develops and maintains corporate procedures/practices, user manuals and guidelines. Ensures industry standards and best practices are known and followed.
4. Budgets, evaluates, substantiates and recommends new network and operational support systems.  Specifies, provisions and implements application upgrades and/or modifications.
5. Monitors systems, analyzes and documents troubles.  Resolves hardware and software problems
6. Manages or coordinates projects for implementation.  Provides scheduling and budget information/ documentation during project development.
7. Installs, commissions and maintains test systems in the Systems Staging Area for evaluation, trouble shooting and training requirements. Develops and executes test plans.
8. Participates in the criteria development and evaluation of new application software, collaboration systems, computer and storage environments and/or network infrastructure with respect to the Operational requirements for infrastructure management systems.
9. Identifies new technology opportunities and evaluates new versions of software. Coordinates and assists in implementation and/or installation in conjunction with various departments.
10. Acts as a representative of SaskTel by leading meetings and facilitating presentations for internal and external customers.
11. Responsible for research, analysis and resolution of technical support issues.  Keeping current on all technical issues.
12. Identifies training requirements for new and enhanced portions of computer based systems.  Participates in preparation of training material/manuals. Provides technical assistance and assists with on-site training, formal training and direct consultation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Degree majoring in Computer Science with a thorough knowledge of supporting and/or developing applications software typically gained through 2 years of current experience in a support and/or development role. OR Diploma in Electronic Engineering or computer/information systems with a thorough knowledge of supporting and/or developing applications software typically gained through 3 years of current experience in a support and/or development role. OR Level 30 Math with a thorough knowledge of supporting and/or developing applications software, collaboration systems, computer and storage environments and/or network infrastructure, typically gained through 5 years of current experience in a support and/or development role.
2. Working knowledge of one of the following:
   a) UNIX, Java, shell scripting, Windows Operating Systems OR HP Quality Center, HP Quick Test Pro, SOAP UI, BRIO, MS Project, Visio, SQL. Does not apply to SI positions or IT Operations positions.
   b) Windows & Linux Operating Systems; Storage & Backup; Cisco Voice & Data Networking (Core and/or Enterprise); Mitel Voice; OR Legacy Voice services.  Does not apply to SI positions.
3. Two years’ experience as a Technical Assistant (SI Systems Development and Support). For SI positions only.
4. Excellent ability to resolve complex application/system/ design problems.
5. Good ability to identify, plan, organize, implement process change and manage complex projects in a self-directed environment.
6. Working knowledge of project management and SaskTel's Testing Methodology.
7. Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with others.
8. Excellent decision making skills.
9. Ability to give direction, provide instruction and act as a facilitator for projects and systems.
10. Valid Driver's License. For SI positions only.

SPECIFICATIONS
1. Responds to callouts in accordance to the Collective Agreement.
2. Works independently as well as in a team environment.
3. Constantly works to deadlines and manages multiple priorities daily.
4. Remains current with advances in rapidly changing technologies
5. Occasional in/out of province travel required.
6. Occasional international travel required on short notice, possibly or extended periods.  For SI positions only.
7. Overtime may be requested.
8. Complies with all safety, health and environmental policies, programs and standards at all times.
